Barbara's Bio --- Barbara moved from thinking Five Gaited Horses were the emperors of the horse world as a child in Kentucky to learning to ride in the Hunter/Jumper barns of Greensboro , NC.  The daughter of her first instructor was a member of the USET Jumping team.  The USET coach Bert De Nemethy brought classical preparation to American jumpers, so she was exposed to world class riding based on classical principles very early.  From there she went to a school in England that specialized in dressage and eventing to get her BHS AI certification. She taught at Meredith College, three community colleges and helped found the San Felasco Hunter Jumper Assoc., the Arredondo Dressage Assoc, a horse council and dressage group in Wilmington, NC and now the Western Dressage Association® of NC.   Teaching has always been her focus, along with giving young horses strong correct basics to prepare them for careers in all disciplines. All along the way she sought instruction with the best dressage instructors available and was fortunate to have Cindy Sydnor as a neighbor, instructor and resource. While she became known as a dressage trainer, she was working with everything from the hunters and event horses she began with to western performance horses and gaited horses. Many of her students are instructors themselves.  They continue to support dressage both by training and competing and through work with dressage organizations.  Today she is a member of the Advisory Board of the Western Dressage Association® of America, where she serves on the Rules Committee that has defined Western Dressage and Western Dressage competition.
